The onsite Protocols have been developed by puresTECH in an effort to manage water and wastewater in an environmentally sustainable manner utilizing modern on-site technologies.

The Protocols were developed over some time with staff input from the Waikato Regional Council and the Thames Coromandel District Council and are intended to be a model taking into account the widely differing geology and hydrology of the locality so that they would be generally and widely applicable across the Region and include Management Protocols and recommendations that empower the community in harmony with the Regional Plan and Regional Plans of the adjoining Regions of Auckland and the Bay of Plenty.

Even though 'on-site' methods of water and waste water management are widely publicized and the technical development of componentry is being continually refined, they are sometimes and quite wrongly seen as less than satisfactory. This is despite the fact that many communities world wide are successfully served by these technologies and that the Protocol documents are being updated and maintained as a living document.
